a seeded player is a player who is ranked in the top for the tournament-sometimes top 10 or 20. An unseeded player is not ranked.

Seeded players are chosen by the tournament organisers (it doens't necessarily follow world rankings). There are normally 16 seeds in a tournament and these players are ranked in the order that the organisers think they will finish.

All the matches are then worked out to keep the seeded players apart until the last 16 and then the matches follow normal NCAA style pairings, highest playing lowest, so, in the last 16

16th seed plays No 1. seed
15th seed plays No 2. seed
14th seed plays No 3. seed

etc.

If the seeds win as they should then the last 8 should be..

8th seed plays 1st seed
7th seed plays 2nd seed
6th seed plays 3rd seed
5th seed plays 4th seed

and then for the last 4

4th seed plays 1st seed
3rd seed plays 2nd seed

Of course if any seed looses then the unseeded player progresses.

Its a bit like handicapping a horse race but is intended to give the best players an easier progression to the later stages of the tournament.

Like I said, seeding is decided solely by the tournament organisers and does not fully reflect World Rankings although it is often similar. In tournaments like Wimbledon or the US Open you may see lower ranked players given seedings.

Simple, if the player has previos history and ranked based on his performance he is a seeded, and the unseeded doesn't have a rank.

Top seeds are usually having their rank b/w 1 to 15

If you are playing a tournament, and if you're seeded then it means you are ranked high in the rankings. (Like the top 10 or 20) When you're seeded, you usually get an easier draw, and don't meet other seeded players until the semi finals. If you are unseeded, then you usually aren't ranked that high and you usually get a more difficult draw. Check the usta website, it'll tell you all about that.

We had 4 - 8 - 16 - 32 seeds.

The first players that are the highest on the ranking (in numeric order) will get a seeded status.

for example:

At a grandslam the 32 highest ranked player that are attending the tournament will get a seed.

At a tier II, III, IV, V we have 4 or 8 seeds depending on how many players. The 4 or 8 highest ranked attending players will get a seed. And at a tier I we have 8,16,32 seeds, also same way.

Unseeded is just when you are just not good enough to earn that seeded status.

Say for example the top 10 in the world plays in a tournament, then they will be the nr 1-10 seeds. Seeds are the order of the players in the tournament according to their rankings. Nr 1 will be the 1st seed. Unseeded players has to low ranking to be seeded or has to qualify for the tournament in order to play.

seeded players are usually the higher ranked player while unseeded players are the lower ranked ones. No matter how good they have done in a tournament if you exept Special Ranking (I think that's the right name) which allow a lower ranked player who have done well on the tour previously to be seeded.

It depends on the organizers of the tournament. They choose which range of numbers are considered seeded, the ones below it are unseeded. I think everyone is ranked as soon as one enters professional tennis.^_^V

Simply ranking based on recent results.
This is done to avoid two of the best players clashing in the first or earlier round itself and avoid the loss of a crowd puller very early..
This also ensures that unseeded or lower ranked players do not go past the last16(pre-quarter-finals) through mere luck by beating some weak opponents
