Why do you think a successful guy like Richard Jeni would have made the mistake of committing suicide?

To begin to answer that question, you have to understand the man's life, and have an inkling as to how the suicidal mind works.

Success can do a lot of strange things to a person. There is the fear of losing it all. Then a person could be afraid that despite all that they have accomplished, there is no meaning to any of it. Or, perhaps he was troubled in matters of love and felt he had nothing else to lose. The answer died with him, and all we have left is speculation.

Please do not condemn those that choose to end their own life. Remember their memory, and respect their wishes. Maybe they're in a better place. It would be tragic, however, if his suicide was caused by a chemical imbalance as they so often are. I would rather not think about that.

The human thoughts are too complex to know why he committed suicide (if he really did). I do know that I will truly miss his great sense of humor. My husband and I saw him in the Irvine Spectrum’s Improve last year and that was the best time we ever had together. We laughed until we cried.

suicide is a solution to a problem.
a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
a solution to no hope. If one feels that there is no possible hope for their situation, then suicide instantly makes that problem stop, although the very next day may have brought hope in a miraculous way, they see no reason to wait another day to see what it brings.
Who knows if death is any better than the worst of life.

The news was just saying he was recently diagnosed with some illness (they did not say what it was)...maybe he couldn't deal with whatever this illness was?
