They're aren't even remotely the same class. The S2000 is a RWD torqueless coupe, while the STi is a rally bred asphalt chewing monster. At a track in the hands of professionals the S2000 should be edge out an STi, however the STi is much more forgiving in the hard stuff thanks to AWD and a pretty linear power band, and is MUCH more fun as a daily driver. The S2000 is an anemic wonder driving around town until you get into the coveted vtec land. The STi has a little bit of turbo lag but anything past 3k rpms is point it and punch it. Off the line a properly driven STi will eat an S2000 for snacks. I love the feel of an AWD launch, there's nothing quite like it(at least for small displacement 4 bangers). Stock to stock, from a roll, The STi and S2k are pretty close until about 90mph when the STis downforce starts to become a burden and the s2k will slowly pull on it. Slap on either an ECU remap(like an accessport) or turbo back, or both on the STi, and the S2000 can't keep up until it gets some sort of forced induction. From a dig an STi can get enough of a lead to keep it all they way up.

Modding is when the STi really shows it's colors. one of my friends has a supercharged S2000, and for the same money he put in to get to a little under 300whp(Comptech S/C, aftercooler, Comptech header, Comptech exhaust, about $10K) I'm putting about 500hp to the ground on pump gas(GT35R, Helix cams, Helix turbo back, APS FMIC, crower stroker kit, and hydra. About $10k). From a dig, roll, in the twisties, I eat him for snacks, not even close to the same class. With 4 people in my car and two in his, he's still a play toy to me.

It all boils down to what you want. If you want a good looking drop top coupe that will attract the ladies, and don't mind driving about town at 6000rpms just so you're in the power band, but want a very capable RWD track car, the S2000 is a great choice. The STi is just a different breed. If you want a very forgiving monster that has enough room to bring the S2000 owners girlfriend over to pick up her 2 other hot friends after you smoke the S2000 for a little 4 way fun, the STi is the way to go.

Personally I like the stealth bit. I have a wrx rear spoiler, RS hood(no nostril), and a black fmic. With 500hp to the ground she's an unassuming sedan till some retard with a fart cannon decides to play with me, then she turns into a giant silver can of whoopass and there aren't many things on the road that will keep up. Before someone comments, yes, I know there are plenty of capable cars that would eat me alive, however those cars are few and far between. As soon as I get back to to the US I'm heading in for a C16 tune and looking for 600-650whp and contemplating installing a 5gallon fuel cell and secondary fuel system for those times that I need that little extra oomph.

Different strokes for different folks, pick what car you like best, there is really no wrong answer between the two cars.

S2000 won the top gear user survey 3 years in a row. So anyone who has one loves it. They're both good on reliability, the Impreza has technically better handling, but you may have more fun with an s2000 as its limits are easier to reach. Getting the tail out in an Impreza requires completely insane driving. The s2000 is also easier to live with as its not set up like a rally car and you won't go nuts with the noise when you just want to cruise. As for high end power, the Impreza is turbocharged and the s2000 has vtec, so you will have to rev high to get the most power out of either. IMO the s2000 is far better looking too, and you won't look like a bank robber.
I vote s2000.

Convertible or hardtop? This is what it would come down to for me. Personally, I don't care all that much for open-air motoring. I had a targa top car and took the top off only when a passenger asked how it worked.

The Subaru is probably easier to live with on a day-to-day basis, because you don't have to keep on top of the revs to have any power. At 10/10ths, the Subaru is also going to leave a lot of cars in the dust that the Honda will be chasing after - either off the line or in the curves.

I personally have a 2006 WRX Limited. It is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. Also handles good in the snow up here in the Pacific NW.

Both are nice. I like the looks of the Honda but the Subaru is a better car for all of what you want.

Go for the best of the both worlds.Get a turbocharged rear wheel drive coupe. Get a Fairlady 350Z & install the APS Twin Turbo Kit. 420HP @ 9psi of boost. No turbo lag with street drivability & engine reliability!
