A one month old child does this. He'll get out of this. Now his stomach is very small and so the milk in there digests very soon and so he needs more milk soon. Do not introduce a bottle if you plan on continuing to breastfeed because this way your son will get nipple confusion because the flow of a nipple of a bottle is much easier and so the baby will not work up to suck from you. Feeding him while lying down is a good way too. But it may not work either because your son is very small but you can try. Keep a pillow behind him and behind you so that it gets comfortable. Try to get sleep when he's sleeping. It will take some time but your baby will not do this for long. Its maybe a month more and then he'll start feeding after maybe 3 to 4 hours.

I was having a similar problem with my daughter. She would always fall asleep and not seem to eat enough and therefor eat every hour, which didn't work at night! What I did is-at night I feed her formula and during the day I breast feed. I give her 2 oz's and then if she's still hungry I either make more or finish her off by breastfeeding. Not only does it allow someone to help you, but formula is more filling and takes a little longer to digest-so it will last longer. Plus, they are more likely to stay awake and finish eating because you can hold them away from you and they won't be as warm/cozy to fall asleep! Good Luck!

After reading the answers you have gotten so far, I was a little surprised. I've breast feed four kids. And yes a baby may want to nurse every hour if you let them. Try pushing it to two hours. Make sure the baby is swaddle, it helps them sleep better. Then maybe mom can get some sleep too. I even slept with my babies in bed and feed to. But I think before you do that, make sure it's hunger and not a passe the baby wants.Believe it or not moms can become a pacifier for there baby's.

You might want to tell your dr in case you're not producing enough milk for him. I use to fall asleep with my kids still feeding it does get better though once you start solid foods he'll sleep for about four hours at a time if not more. Ask grandma or hubby to take him for a couple of hours so you can catch up on some sleep

Sounds pretty normal to me.
Both of our babies at that age tended to 'cluster' feed at some point in the day - feeding every hour (and you know that means starting a feeding every hour, not an hour between feedings!)
Especially with my eldest, we noticed that she tended to cluster for 4-5 feedings before her longest sleep of the day. So rather then waiting for her to cluster, my wife _offered_ her the breast every hour from say 7-11 pm. Sure enough, it worked, she clustered then and then she'd sleep for a good chunk.

You may need to do like my wife did and get yourself a breast pump, or go to fomula. Breast milk is far cheaper, but you need your sleep as well, so I suggest you get a pump, and have your husband/boy friend or whomever help feed the little guy. I myself enjoyed feeding my son, even if it was eight or nine times a day.

You can also try nursing with him in bed with you. So when he wakes up to eat, you can latch him and go back to sleep. Just be careful not to roll over while he's in bed with you.
