I'm looking to buy a new laptop computer, and am seriously thinking of getting a Mac because I get so sick of all the problems I've had on my PC's. But my friends (PC users) warn me I will hate it because I won't understand the software- being that I'm so used to Windows. Can you help me make a decision? Anyone go from PC to Mac that can tell me if it's difficult to get the hang of everything after being used to using a PC for so long? I do know that you can run Windows on Macs now...

Oh- what I use my computer for: mostly internet, playing music, photo editing, downloading stuff, Microsoft Office. I need a computer that can handle a lot going on at a time.

Thanks for all your input!

I just got my macbook. It took me 2 days to learn Linux. I can use it as well as windows. Vista is the worst OS in existance, Linux is amazing. Viruses don't exist on Macs. They're sexy. Everyone in Hollywood uses a Mac. Pc's are for suckers. Get the mac.

All computers have their problems. I dont think I'd buy a new Microsoft PC due to Vista; vista will be a pain in the @rse for a while before they fix the bugs.

I'm sure you'll get used to the Mac quickly, the only problem I'd forsee is compatibility between file formats, but then its been a while since I've used a Mac.

In case you havent already guessed, I'm a Microsoft user (programmer) and even I'm looking for alternatives. Based on the decisions that MS is making (not just with vista), I'm going to make the outrageous claim that MS will either be in serious financial trouble (unable to make ANY profit) or no longer a major force in the software industry within five years.

Just get a Mac Mini. It is an inexpensive way to get a taste of the Mac world. As for "Not understanding the software"..., well if you can't figure it out then you probably should not be using a computer at all. All Macs come with software for all the stuff you mentioned above, except for MS Office. There is a version of MS Office available for the Mac. There is also a FREE alternative called OpenOffice, which is fully compatible with MS Office (go to OpenOffice.org). Just jump in head first. You will not be disappointed.

people think going from PC to Mac is hard because they are lazy.... or just plain stupid. It's really easy. Office functions the same on both anyways, except instead of ctrl you hit the apple button. I can tell for most PC users this already sounds like way too much work but trust me, it isn't. The only problem is sometimes you can't download stuff for Mac's that you can for Windows. Trust me though, if you can't download it for a Mac, you don't really need it.

I grew up on PCs (I'm 22 and got my first PC in 5th grade) and just switched to a Mac last year, with absolutely NO problems! If you feel you're pretty savvy (i.e. you're young and aren't computer illiterate like some older people are) you'll be just fine. I don't understand why people say it's hard to go from pc to mac! Maybe the software is more user-friendly on macs than it was before...who knows, but I think you'll be fine! you could always go to a library or something and try out a mac, and see how it goes fo ryou...or to a computer store. or use a friends/family members.

I wouldnt bother getting a Mac honey!

Most apple products are bought by what we call 'Trendys'. People who like to be associated with a brand as its marketed as the best thing since sliced bread. If you notice the way apple tries to dominate the mp3 market and Pc market its all nonsence. Its completly crap and so much more hassle to install new software and hardware. The only benefit of Apple fancy white products is that if you show it off to people they will think your cool. Have you noticed the number of People walking around clutching an IPOD. WOOO hes cool!

Get yourself a Sony laptop or Toshiba, there much better and you can install all software and hardware without problems.

Aloha from Down Unda!

It's like asking a Lincoln Town Car driver to convince you to buy a Chevy Nova!
