I'm learning Macedonian from my friend. I don't know where to start though, is it with the numbers, greetings, or what?

I've never really bothered to learn another language, so I don't know what they start off teaching you, and what comes next once you've learnt a fair bit.

Learning a second language is tough as an adult so you want to make it fun. First learn the alphabet so you know how to pronounce it. Next, as you said, learn basic greetings; hello, goodbye, my name is, what's your name, I'm from _____, where are you from, etc. Then, practice role playing to get a feel for the language.

If you are still interested, go on to learn numbers, colors and vocabulary like the body, house, etc. Try to have little mini dialogs. For example, pretend to be in a restaurant or in a shop, any place you could imagine yourself using the language.

After that, If you are still keen, I'm afraid you will have to face the grammar, especially if you want to know a language well. Also, you may want to spend time listening to the sound of the language, usually you watch tv or listen to the radio. It will probably be challenging with this language.

Finally, the best way to learn a language is to spend time in the country of the language.Good luck!

There is no such a language as Macedonian. This is just a Bulgarian dialect.

People in the authentic Macedonia speak the Greek language for more than 2500 years now.

I would go with "emergency" phrases: Help! Call the police! Where is the hospital? Where is the bathroom? Emergency! Things like that. Then I would suggest greetings: Hello. How are you? What's your name? My name is... It's nice to meet you. After that you can learn the other things: likes, dislikes, appropriate vs. inappropriate conversation, general conversation.

Starting from greeting is better. But it is the best to start it with the areas of your interest if not too heard to do so. If you are fond of arithmatics or numerology, to start with numbers will be more useful.
