Well I'm going to recommend Tide first. They sell Tide that's 3x more concentrated so you get more for your money.
Next, I'd recommend ALL. ALL is a pretty good company and like Tide they sell the 3x more concentrated as well. I think this brand is going to be slightly cheaper as well.
I've heard that Method made by Target is good. Try that one.
Stay away from powders, they aren't made as well as liquid and in the end you'll be better off with liquid money wise. Good luck.

All small and mighty is a good detergent and a fair price. Gain is cheaper than tide too and is really good. Surf is good and cheaper...The list goes on and on!
If you have a membership to sams you can get detergent there super cheap! I have a huge thing of surf that was only 12 dollars or so and it does almost 200 loads!
Hope this helps!

I buy Gain. I too love the way it smells. yummy.
I like Surf with All too.
You can buy Arm & Hammer,
Sun,
Xtra,
and a few other inexpensive detergents. But I'd rather pay 5 more dollars and get cleaner clothes that smell fresh then keep the 5 dollars and have a detergent that doesn't really work great.
But out of all of the inexpensive detergents I would say that Xtra is my pick. Good luck.

I`ve used every laundry soap that has ever been made and these are the ones that I`v found to be the best. Tide, Gain, Sunlight, Cheer, and Arm and Hammor. Extra fades your clothes, BIG TIM!! As for your dark laundry, Cheer Darks is the ultimate best!!

invest in Tide with bleach. nothing else compares and you'll waste your money.
if you have to scrimp, buy oxy clean and add it to each load.
