it is possible that you are already in labor. you are 40 weeks right? my friend was like that before...she has contractions but not really painful, and we decided to take her to the hospital. we thought that they'll send her home but the doctor said, she is already 5 cm. so, we stayed there until she gave birth...
i'll congratulate you now....congratulations! (you can do it!)

I'm pregnant with my first child (i.e I've never given birth) but all the books I've read and all the advice I've gotten has told me that labour can last hours and hours. All the advice I've been given is to not go to the hospital straight away because you'll just end up walking up and down the corridors in waiting until you are really ready. Just try and stay calm, maybe try and boil the kettle and have clean towels ready just in case.

But can you go to a neighbor's house? Can you email anybody close by? This sounds silly but there is a free program on-line called Skype. It should be at www.skype.com it allows you to make calls using Internet lines, (if your Internet is working this should work right)

On this program you can call computers for free or you can call people's mobiles and fixed phones using your credit card.

Good luck.

Some people have almost no pain in labour. I knew one woman who had her first child in half an hour with only mild discomfort.

I understand your concern about lightening, but if the pains get to be 3 minutes apart I would take the risk and call someone. Have you got a next door neighbour you could go to? Even if you don't know them at all, noone would turn you away in your situation.

I hope it all turns out ok for you. Try to stay calm. Most thunderstorms only last about half an hour.

I was induced 8 days after my due date. They hooked me up to a machine that measured the intensity and frequency of my contractions. When I first had one, the nurse said, "Oh you're having a contraction right now." I said, "Really? I didnt even feel it." I didnt start feeling my contractions until after they broke my water. If you're afraid of the lightning (which you have every right to be) then wait to call. Labor usually lasts for hours before the babys born so dont worry. You have time.

I just knew it was time to go to the hospital. Things just didn't feel right...I never had actual labor pains even though my contactions were registering normal on the machines. This is one of those things that is different from person to person. If you aren't feeling right and you are that far along I say get to the hosiptal a.s.a.p.

Congratulations!

The safe bet would be to call a doctor. Mine didn't start strong, but it was definitely a different feeling than the Braxtons. I called and they told me to wait awhile until they were coming at a more steady and close together rate. When it comes to your health and your child you can't lose by playing it overly-safe. Good luck with everything!!

Contractions don't start hard. Mine came on gradually. The painful stuff will come later - trust me! You are probably in labor.

Do you have any relatives or friends nearby? You should call them. You are pretty far along, so you should seek medical attention immediately.
