Is is painful when it swells up? It sounds like a Bartholin's Cyst.

On the inside of the labia are two Bartholin glands (one on each side). After your baby was born and they stitched up the labia, it may have caused one of the glands to block, which would cause the symptoms you are experiencing.

It is not normal, and you should not be embarrassed (but I can understand why). As for treatment, it can keep on coming back (as you have found) and it may need to be removed surgically so it will not reoccur. Visit your Doctor while it is swollen, then they can see exactly what is happening.

Here is more info from Wikipedia

Interesting to note, I always though that the Barthonlin's gland was to provide lubrication, and now I see that they are not sure what they are for.

Hope it gets better.

I had a tear, not to mention the doctor had to cut me just to make everyone big enough.. stitches and all. It took me at least a good 2 months to even be able to walk up the steps. As far as the irritation goes, I would most definitely talk to your doctor about that. It doesn't sound normal at all, and could possibly be some sort of infection... GL!!

My second daughter tore me a new (hole). This was 10 years ago. I still experience some discomfort from time to time. I had many exams since. I'm told everything is fine. I just keep tuck pads in stock for the time the irritation comes back. They work within a couple of days. Good luck.

I would have talked to the doctor when it happened...not wait for 7 months.

you should definitely talk to your doctor, but i saw an episode on Dr.90210 where this lady had a similar problem and she had to get plastic surgery to correct it. I don't remember whether it swelled up but i know she tore it during childbirth. Is that common?

i dont know what to say.

I have a mild irritaion on the outer skin flap by the vulva, itches and swells. Had it with my last pregnancy and i have it with this one. It's in one spot only, doesnt move anywhere else.

So your not alone, i feel you frustratin and pain on it

I don't know if it is normal or not but you should see your doctor about it, it might be something so easy to fix and you can put your mind at rest.
