Hi

To answer step by step I need to know what html editor you are using.

There are three main metatags- one of which strictly isn't a metatag. This one , the first, is called the "Title" tag and goes at the top of the "Head" section of the Html code. It is the "Title" of the page and should also contain at least the most important keyword for the page. This is simply the title of your page and what appears at the top of the browaser window.e.g. the browser window I have open now says "I'm lost when it comes to metatags" It also forms the clickable link that you click on in the results in the search engine.

The other is the description metatag which is basically a description of what the page is about. It should also contain the keywords.

Then other is the keyword metatag which isn't used much by search engines anymore- at the moment. It is simply a list of the keywords on the page e.g is it about web design? What else is mentioned? Synonyms of your keywords could be included as well as plural and singualr forms.

If you tell me what Html editor you use e,g, Dreamweaver I can give you step by step instructions. It is also probably a little complicated to go into here but if you email me on cpschmidt29@yahoo.com.au I can provide more info on how to formulate your tags. There is heaps of info on the web as well just google for Title Tag, Description Metatag, and keyword metatag.

I run a web development and multimedia company.

Chris

If you "View Source" on this Yahoo page, you'll see meta tags a few lines down the page.

This is what appears in this page's meta tags. Notice that they're related to your post.

Place these tags at the top of the page after the tags but before the </head> tag.<br /> <br /> <html><br /> <head><br /> <title>My site

Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html

Don't worry too much about the keywords tag, must engines don't use it. Focus on title tag, description tag and H1/H2 tags.
