How do you deal with a college roomate who is taking your things, yet denying it when you ask them. I don't want to start drama, but my things should be respected, right?

Yes, they definitely should be respected. This is a hard thing to deal with (I've been dealing with college roommates for years--I'm a 5th year in college). Whenever you find something of yours missing or used, ask her if it was her/him who used or took it. If you keep asking, she might get the point that it's really bugging you. In the meantime, you can try and catch him/her in the act somehow...if you do, confront her and ask that she please do not use your stuff without asking first.

If you keep your room locked, then it does pretty much narrow it down to your roommate. You don't have to start drama, but you need to be direct. No cursing, nothing accusatory, but sit her down and point out the things that are missing. Ask if she knows who might have taken them. Ask her, very nicely, if she has a problem with taking things that do not belong to her. Assure her she has only to ask first, and you may consider lending her a few things, etc. If she still feigns innocence, tell her you are locking your closet, and do so. You'll have given her fair warning and the chance to be honest. Organize your things, and make a point of letting her see you.Tell you you have a place for everything and a full written inventory[you can fake that part.] Tell her firmly that if one more item goes missing, you are taking it up with an authority, an honor council, whoever needs to address the issue. Tell her you will not live with a person whose integrity you doubt. Life is too short for this, and you need to be able to study and enjoy your college days. Point out to her that your things cost money and cannot always be easily replaced. Good luck.

Sometimes, I'm afraid you've got to start drama to get anywhere.:-/ Can you lock any of these things up? Put labels on your food? If so, I'd suggest you do that, and if you're living in a dorm, you might want to talk to your RA about things.

You need to get people from campus security involved, and ask their advice.

The drama started when they, or someone you know, with access to whatever area you had things in, started stealing from you. Unless you do something to stop it, you are going to keep losing things, as whoever it is, get away with it.

Call campus security and report missing things. Consider asking to get a different roommate or room, by yourself.

Good luck.

I agree that you should lock your things up. Maybe you could get one of those locking file cabinets and put your pricy things in there. I had a roommate once who didn't steal fom me, but whenever her sister came over she helped her self to my closet.... so annoying. I ended up moving because no matter how much I complained and she apologized, she still did it... ugh...good roomies are hard to come by!

Be straight up with her. If she still doesn't respect you, see if you can find a new roommate! You have to be able to compromise or else there's no point in living together!

No need of any drama all you have to do is tell him face to face "I don't like this type of behavior".and if he doesn't hear your words, better keep them in a box and lock them.

To be honest i hate anyone touching my stuff. If i were you i would put a lock on my room and put my stuff in there. There is nothing worse than someone that lies.
