Just curious...the trailer kind of looked like an Abercrombie ad.

I saw it just earlier tonight actually. While I do appreciate the eye candy of scantily-clad men, I do have to mention the mythology of it all. The idea of mythology is that people, like the Spartans, travelled forth, away from their homelands. Since travel was well limited back then, the travelers would have some fun stories to tell. If you've seen the movie 300, take the elephants and the rhinos. These animals are not that big in real life, obviously. But for these men, it was their first encounter with elephants. They hadn't seen them before, which is why in the movie, they talk about all the magical, strange things the Persians brought with them. Telling "hero" tales, and with the course of time taking it's toll, elephants soon became huge, much larger than they really are. Like a tall tale. The people back home wouldn't know, and more stories would be told, handed around the city, down through generations. The creatures shown, the size of animals depicted, everything pretty much was a rendition of a story told to someone by someone else, etc.etc. That's what 300 is. It's basic plot is the truth, history. But the largest percentage is mythology. What has been told. I personally thought it was awesome.

Would a nude cruxifix turn you on? Same analogy. I say that "300" is just a glorification of a historical incident with added eye candy. For true male erotica, take up Latin.

The ancient Greeks were known for stripping down to the buff as a preparation for battle or athletic contests. Many examples in the art from them. If anything, "300" is modest by their standards.

Geezus. It is not male erotica. If that's what you intended it be when you went to see it, then so be it. Why are people so unable to enjoy a film as entertainment without analyzing to death every potential goof and error?

It is a historic epic. While it may not mirror the real life event exactly (and that would be impossible anyway as no one from that time frame is still alive), they did a pretty damn good job considering. History itself is full of people playing Telephone because that is how epics of old were passed on, so the precise real life events were forgotten by many.

For what it's worth, the topless men didn't bother me at all but I wasn't having any orgasms either.

Hmmm...not sure where you see the abercrombie part of it. But 300 is based on a comic book by Frank Miller. This movie has monsters and stuff in it...soooo I think it's pretty far fetched to be a historic epic. The spartans I think were more clothed too...

And..I don't see anything wrong with half nude men .... :)

I just wish men looked and walked around like that now! The movie was based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, in turn is very loosely based on what really happened. They were out numbered greatly, but there were more then 300 hot sexy ripped men in loin cloth! The graphic novel was great, you should read it!!

the spartans apparently fought in armor though.

one part that was kinda creepy was when the king goes to see xerxes by himself. and with the king turned away, xerxes grabs leonidas and whispers, "It's not the whips that they're afraid of."

take what you will.

Nah its nothing even close to history. Troy was better in the historical aspect. While it does have guys who were ripped, i guess you might say that it was the latter.
