Estimating can be useful to find an approximate answer very quickly, without the need of doing all the work out.

estimating is helpful because then if you do the work to figure it out, and it is near your estimate, you know you are likely correct. If it is way off from your estimate, then you probably made a mistake

it is also helpful in other ways
sqr(143) is a little less than 12 (a little less than sqr(144))
sqr(170) is a little more than 13(a little more than sqr(169))

it would be difficult to figure out the exact answer to those without a calculator, but easy to estimate

2.999989949923999999*5 is a little less than 15 (because 3*5=15)

these are some examples why estimating is good

I use estimating as a quick check to see if my answer is reasonable.

you can do math much more easily! other than using 2.986750314, you can use 3...
