I told my mom that I had finished my homework so that I could go to my church's youth thing after mass. Is it wrong to lie so that I can do stuff that is religion related? Or does that make the lie worse?

Why didn't you just tell her the truth?

I think you should go to your Mom, and confess, and figure out why you lied, and get at the real problem. Do you need the friendship of the group, or the religious aspect, or what are you getting out of the religious activity that is making you lie to do it.

Because, if you are lying to go to church, you are seriously missing the point of going. Seriously.

Technically, no lie is an "okay" lie. Lying is sinful and lying to your parents isn't good. If you have to question it, then it's probably not a good thing. People do things they don't mean to do, don't dwell on it, it's okay. People lie and it happens, you just have to be a good person and try not to lie a lot.

It is good to lie like this when you are young.
This will help you when you to do it more convincingly when you are older.
You may want to enter politics, big business or the church.
This is essential if you want to rise to the top in these professions.

A lie is a lie. We're all guilty of doing it, and we do it because we think it makes life more liveable. That doesn't make it right. You lied...plain and simple.

Lies are lies--are you religious??? You go to church and lie anyway??? Come on ---grow up. You did it and its too late--don't do it again--a lesson in life. If you get caught--you'll be sorry you did it and then you have no one to blame but yourself. Smile and get over it

The reason you wanted to go wasn't for religious reasons, most likely it was social. Be honest with yourself so that you can forgive yourself or be forgiven for the right reasons.
