So much hipe has gone into the movie The 300, it seems unlikely that all of the people of the time spoke the same language. Did they speak one language or, did they speak a common slang to all to the regions involved?

It was Greek, that was one thing even the Spartans and Athenians could agree on, that they were all Greek.

What Language Did Spartans Speak

Greek. The Spartan nation was one of the many Greek Isles. Now as for the movie 300 (which ruled) Kings and Ambassadors would have learned the language of their foes and neighbors. Thus, when you see Leonidus talking with Xerxes, one of them may have known the other's language... in the end though, it's just Hollywood's portrayal of the battle of Thermopolyae.

The Doric dialect of Greek. Let me give an example:
trap, device: Doric Greek: machina
Attic Greek: mechana
The reason we say machine, but mechanical, is that the Romans got their first Greek, including the word machina, from the Greeks of Southern Italy, who spoke the Doric dialect.

They mostly spoke the Doric dialect of Ancient Greek. Most Spartans originated from Lakonia and this was the dialect which was prevalent.
