think of a bank statement with bounced checks.

-$52.95 + -$14.36 = about -52 + -$15 = about -$67

real numbers = -$52.95 + - $14.36 = -$67.31

estimating numbers is helpful because it gets you a close number quicker than getting out your pencil and paper.

Say, like maybe you called your mom, but you didn't know how much credit you had left, you wouldn't know when to hang up.

Like negative numbers could be helpful when describing the balance in your account after buying a Porsche.
