And yet... they can all afford to run away abroad when the going gets tough... I never have and never will be able to... and it's odd, but living in the poorer sector as they mostly do, constantly changing jobs and getting fired as they fall in and out, how do they afford furniture and rent and.... those passports as well?

Probably because the producers have forgotten to keep abreast of change and update things... you only get the token modern kids with all the gear, when in reality, most parents spend more on the kids than on themselves!

Coronation Street has always got the balance exactly right, on kids, and workers, and their home situations through the passing decades.

And wasn't it nice to see the new brothers on the block in Corrie, actually dealing with the Sean and Sonny situation, without the screaming, threats and punches... and the mob mentality, like they actually have some brains and their name isn't Mitchell?

The launderette is the same thing as the village pump - it's where people go to meet other folk and chat about the issues of the day. The other reason for the launderette in Eastenders is to try to give the impression that everyone living in Cockneyland is poor. It's also a location in the story where actors go to die. Have you noticed that?

The most annoying thing about Eastenders is that it does not represent the reality of the East End. Take a walk down Brick Lane E1 and see what I mean. You'll be able to eat a very nice curry but not very much fish-n-chips.

Hehe good question. You can pick up a good decent washing machine for £60 on ebay. Those Eastenders must like making life hard for themselves.

They spend all their money and time in the Queen Vic and the cafe so can't afford a washing machine or the time to go and buy one. It's all so unrealistic anyway why should this be any different?

Why do people still move there? Surely the high mortality rate must be well known by now. I can just hear people saying, "You're moving to Albert Square? I'll bring some nice flowers for your funeral"!

If they save all the money spent at the laundrette they could buy a new washer in no time.

It's fiction and totally unrelated to real life, like all soaps. Get a life and give up television.
