I want to know about the discovery of America by Columbus. His expectation was something is there towards west. He started from Europe. What made him to guess something is there towards west in those days without much of technical support?

On the evening of August 3, 1492, Columbus departed from Palos. Columbus first sailed to the Canary Islands, which was owned by Castile, where he restocked the provisions and made repairs, and on September 6, he started what turned out to be a five-week voyage across the ocean
Land was sighted at 2 a.m. on October 12, 1492.

Columbus was not the first European to discover the Americas. He actually thought he was in Eastern Asia (Hence the name the natives were given) He had no idea there was another land to the west, he just wanted a quicker way to China.
The Vikings were the first Europeans to discover it. before that, there are myths of the Welsh or other peoples managing there way here, and some even think the Egyptians may have established trade with a South American group, though I have no idea as to how truthful that is, it's been a while since I've heard anything on it.
Before THAT, Asiatic peoples crossed over the land bridge from Asia to Canada.

The first Europeans to come to America was Leif Erickison and Erick the Red with their Viking warriors. Native Americans have been here far longer.

Columbus never discovered America. The indians were already here. How can you discover something that is inhabited by humans? Also he tortured many of them in order to fulfill his quota for gold. He was a mass murderer and doesnt deserve to have a turd named after him.
