I think of locus as "location"

so, the locus of all points a set distance from a given point is a circle, that's where you'd find all the points (or a sphere, in 3-d)

A locus is basically just a collection of points that have something in common. Usually its referred to when you connect the points by a continuous line (or curve).

A ;locus' is the set of points defined by some rule or equation. For instance, "the set of all points equidistant from a line and a point external to the line" is a parabola.
