There is no "rule" that says you cannot wear more than one eyeshadow color at a time... I've used over ten eyeshadows in a look and have it come out looking great. Granted, you cannot see each individual shadow, and that's what happens when you have a plethora of makeup to pick and choose from - you end up grabbing this shadow and that and let it all come together eventually.

The key to wearing more than one color is blending them together so that they appear seamlessly. You can easily pair colors you'd think wouldn't go together if you do a good job blending the two so that they fade into each other, instead of looking harsh and piecemeal on your lid.

Different looks, purposes, occasions, etc. all demand different types of application, style, and technique. If you are going to a formal interview, you often do not need more than a soft neutral on the lid with a darker neutral to deepen the crease. However, if you're spending the evening clubbing with your girlfriends, many ladies use this time to splurge and have fun with their make-up by using plenty of high color. It really depends on your personal taste and style, as well as the occasion and where you're wearing it. You wouldn't wear a full face of make-up if you were going to be in a swim meet, would you?

im gonna tell you flat out. more than 2 colours makes you look like a caked up whore

5 is a little too much. 3 is good, unless you are layering colors. try experimenting. you can always wash it off. you might get a Bozo effect, or it might look nice.
