CONGRATS ON YOUR PREGNANCY!
but hot tubs are a no no. Just like having a fever, your body temp rising (and rapidly) can harm your baby. Especially in the first trimester. You are risking miscarriage and birt defects if you put your body and child through this.
A fever can cause anomalies in the central nervous system. Babies at particular risk for cerebral palsy, for example, are those exposed to high temperatures around the time of labor. Neural tube defects are more common in mothers exposed to fever in the first trimester. Though you may not have a fever, you are raising your temp like you do have one.
Sorry to say this, but if you dont want to risk hurting your child, you will have to sit this one out for 9 months.

If you've ever been to a public swimming area that has hot tubs they have the do's and don'ts. Pregnant women should not get into hot tubs. It could be dangerous to the baby as well as you. I know that the high temperature can make a person light headed. It's kind of like riding a roller coaster pregnant. You shouldn't do that either. I wouldn't take the chance. I'm sure the back pain is tough, but you can find other alternatives. Ask your hubby to massage your back. You can lay on your side or in a chair. I had severe back pain with my second baby. Of course he was 10lbs. He was a heavy one to carry. Good luck. Also some people are willing to risk it. Like smoking while pregnant. I fell you're playing with fire. Why risk it.

Its better to wait. 9 months then you can sit all you want. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. I gave up hot baths and going to the nail saloon and dying my hair because my child was going to have the best chance I could give her, and now I have a perfect 3 week old daughter and I dont regret the things I had to give up. A week ago I dyed my hair and took a long hot soak in the tub. 2 days after giving birth I treated myself to a mani and pedicure. Be patient...

"Raising your core body temperature (hyperthermia) can harm your fetus, particularly during the early weeks of organ development. While experts don't forbid hot tub or sauna use, they do advise caution. 1
Hyperthermia during the first weeks of fetal development has been linked to neural tube defects. 2 Pregnant women are therefore advised to treat a high fever with acetaminophen and to avoid other causes of hyperthermia.
There is no firmly established temperature or length of exposure that is considered safe during pregnancy. If you use a hot tub or sauna during pregnancy, be conservative. Avoid uncomfortably high temperatures, and limit your exposure. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists suggest sauna use of no more than 15 minutes and hot tub use of no more than 10 minutes. To help keep your body temperature down in a hot tub, sit with your arms and upper torso above the water. 1"

So: don't over-indulge, and go easy in the first trimester.
I love the way this has been blown out of proportion to "no hot baths." Yeah, women have traditionally given up washing while pregnant...
(And, you can use it as a birthing pool in 9 months!)

That's a no-no. Nooooo. You'll have to wait it out. Think of it this way, is a soak in the hot tub worth your child's well being? Rather not risk that.

think of a hot tub as a pot of boiling water on the stove. you are cooking the fetus.
keeping the water at a lower temp increases the bacteria growth in the tub.
of course, this hot tub sounds much more important to you -so enjoy.

I am a big hot tub girl and am now 26 weeks pregnant. I go in them for short times only.. and don't let myself feel hot or even start to sweat. If you have your own you are fine if you keep it at 99 degrees or lower... then you can stay in for a long time.. just like a nice long bath or shower

You can't sit in real hot water, it is dangerous to elevate your body temp which elevates babys temp. Ask your dr. what a safe temp would be and keep it under that.

you decide which is more imp to you... your bathtub or your baby, you can use your bathtub after 9 months ( even if you hate too) but if you loose your baby you cant get it back even after your whole life...
