Why wasn't there a tribute to Kerry Packer at the world cup opening, he made such a contribution to cricket, or is it that the ICC are still dirty with him for what he did in the 60s and 70s?

without kerry packer we wouldn't have the professional style cricketers we have today nor would we have cricket helmets, domination of the west indies during the 80s or even the one day style of cricket the world cup is based upon

You're right. In 1977, even as 100 years of test cricket were completed, cricket was changed forever by an aussie media/television tycoon, a businessman who was successful in the turnaround of cricket - protective helmets, coloured clothing, cricket under lights, cricket at night, field restrictions (which became a standard of the post-Packer game).
He was KERRY PACKER.
His world series for 2 years shook the cricket boards, but benefitted the top 51 players of the world from different countries.
