Well, I don't know if some of the methods have been duplicated, but Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" used candlelight for the interior lighting, I believe, to enhance the realism. From what I remember, everything about the film seemed realistic (can't tell for certain as I don't remember being in the 18th/19th Century).

But that's a technical issue. It is an excellent film - though perhaps a little lengthy - but maybe not the most entertaining.

As far as the most entertaining (though I must say I haven't seen most period pieces - particularly 19th Century), I would choose "Shakespeare In Love" and "Amadeus"
