My boyfriend is planning to live there. I'm a non-Australian city slicker, wondering what I'm in for.

p/s: How far is it from the beach?

MULLUMBIMBY
At the Pacific Highway turn-off now marked by a selection of totem poles topped by a very large pelican there used to be an arrow-shaped sign pointing the way and declaring "Mullumbimby - biggest little town in Australia".

The alternative lifestyle movement of the early seventies brought a whole range of new settlers into the Mullumbimby area, drawn by the beautiful land and inexpensive housing then available and the faltering rural economy of this farming town took a new direction.

Population - 2900

Mullumbimby is a pretty town with a good golf course inland from the coast, perhaps 20 minutes from Brunswick Heads. It has a varied population including a few alternative lifestylers but no more than most places in the area and certainly far less than Nimbin or Byron Bay.

Land prices are rising throughout the area as the coast prices continue to soar. There are many worse places to live.

If is 'the' place to go for marijuana and festivals that encourage it. It is near Byron Bay which basically belongs to the tourists now. Not too far from the beach and filled with beautiful green, rolling hills and valleys. But I don't think it would be a place you'd want to live. I also don't think there would be many work opportunities available in the 'hippy' town.

The place was great 20 years ago. Now it is full of Victorians, kiwis and no hopers. Say 8km from the beach (Brunswick).

Just up the coast is far better, Kingscliff, Cabarita etc.

Mmmm your boyfriend must have a good reason for moving to Mullumbimby, full of druggies and hippies. The beach is not too far away, but hey if you like the laid back quite peaceful life then move there.

A non-coastal town, filled with drug-addicts,ice and stuff like that. The same people call themselves 'hippies' and would have a Martini as they watched a 'meateater' being hit by a bus.
You can(this is real)however, donate tinned dog food (for lost dogs-people can go to hell). It is one of the most loathsome, ugly, corrupt places in 'Australia'.
None of them read and they've been on social security since they were able to register.
If I were P.M,I'd have the place levelled!
DON'T GO THERE.If you think that I'm joking, you'll find to your horror,I'm not.
