Children should receive a fair amount of homework each night to help reinforce the skills they learned at school that day. It should not however be overwhelming and unmeaningful. I usually go by 10 minutes of homework per grade. 2nd grade=20 minutes a night; 3rd grade=30 minutes; etc.

I don't think that homework for elementary students should me eliminated. Homework is an essential part of their academics and without it they wouldn't be able to learn all that is needed. Starting the practice of homework at that age gives them the discipline they will need in their higher education. Plus, what children need to learn, cannot be learned through classroom work only. Teachers can only get so much into a day and also it shows what the child has learned from the day.
Homework is a necessity, and always has been. Just not one that is enjoyed.

I think homework should be eliminated. Homework is a waste of time- children's time, teacher's time, and parent's time. My daughter is at school 6 hours a day. Then she comes home and has to spend at least 30 minutes (sometimes up to 2 hours) doing homework. This is in second grade! How can a family function efficiently if members have so much work to do that doesn't benefit the family?

School hours are for learning. Home hours should be for playing, helping around the house, and being a kid. I say that it would be better for children not to have so many activities at school so that all paperwork could be done at school.

Homework is an invasion of our family time by school. It takes away time from me as a parent because I have to correct my daughter's homework and help her understand it. It takes away time from the teacher to correct it. I am seriously considering homeschooling my daughter- this would mean her schooling could be done in about 4 hours, and no "homework".

Several recent studies have shown that homework has little to no benefot for most children. And many teacher give far too much of it anyway. If a child can do ten problems correcrtly, then he can do thirty. There is no need to make a student do thirty. Kids' lives these day are overwhelmingly busy compared to 20 years ago. Kids have many organized activities and other obligations and are left with very little time to PLAY with one another. Unstructured play time is a very important developmental learning process where kids learn teamwork, to resolve conflicts, and to understand others' differences. Most kids today do very little of that. Between video games, homework, boy scouts, piano lessons, and soccer practice a kid's week is full. Adding homework just because "kids should learn to do homework and be responsible" is garbage!

I'm a 4k teacher, we do not give homework at this age. I have a 4th grader who has an overwhelming amount of homework. I think it should be cut back on maybe down to two nights a week. He is getting in bed late and not getting enough rest. I have to do some of his work for him. Children cannot function when they have to stay up late doing homework, and they cannot reach expectations when they have five tests and work , it is unreal.

I consider you, there desires to be a stability. For straightforward childrens i do no longer think of homework ought to take extra effective than 20 minutes tops. For me taking abode the artwork we did at school helped me realize it slightly extra useful. i ought to circulate at my own %. with homework and day after on the instant i will say 'oh yeah I bear in concepts that become on our homework!' it additionally helped me seem returned on something whilst it got here to purpose time. Bringing abode slightly artwork instills the innovations and such into the youngster yet hours and hours of homework for a 2d, third, 4th grader shouldn't do something yet overwork the youngster.

No keep drilling them with more practice. Sharpen their skills so that they can work for a better grade and not loosen up themselves and fail. But if some students are homeless how can they do a "home"work?
