A jin or a 'djinn' or a 'genie' has become very famous due to the famous cartoon Aladdin. A jin is actuall a spirit but a visible one. It has something to do with the muslims and the great god ALLAH. It was said that the ancient arabs used to get a jinn from the lord if they could win his favour. Many rumours have been passed down but yes jinn is a ghost which is very likely not existing!
But as people from those lands have made claims that there are jinns and they have actually seen it perform magic we cant say anything about it.

If I remember correctly, "Jin" has been translated as
"Jinnie" which turned into Genie as in the one that comes out of a bottle.
Both are figment's of the imagination , but the stories about them usually have morals. Do a Google search and you'll find your answers.

Jinns and Sprites are Arabic words for evil spirits. Allah has said "I have created both men and Jinns for hell."
