My just turned 5 month old daughter is the same. As she is my second child - I just go with the flow and try not get obsessed by it. And stop listening to other mothers who say their babies sleep all night through and sleep 1 hour in the morning etc etc - some do - most don't. Have you tried lying down with him and having a nap with him? That works for me (sometimes anyway LOL)

How do you mean 'refuse'? Are you putting him down and expecting him to just fall asleep? Babies don't know what sleep is, they have to learn. They learn by being held and reassured that this is normal all these strange feelings (imagine what they feel like when they are tired) are okay.

Check out the No Cry Sleep Solution. Great book.

Two naps a day is normal. That's what my 6 month old baby would do at that age.

Babies need help falling asleep--and good sleep associations. Maybe he is going through a growth spurt or is beginning to teeth (this baby got his first teeth at 5 months, and was teething around 4 month--which often kept him up).

Try co-sleeping and you might find he becomes a very good sleeper! Check out this recent article on the benefits and normalcy of sleeping with your baby:

our peditrician told us to not let him fool you into thinking he doesnt need a nap. sometimes my son doesnt want to take a nap at his usual time, so we'll just play for a half hour and he'll be ready to lay down. plus there is a lot to say for consistency, especially with babies. If you are an on the go kind of person this will throw babies way off course. so a set napping schedule will do wonders. and if all else fails a nice bath usually tuckers em out like a dream.
