I bank with PC Financial and deposited at total of $260.00 cash into my account at a CIBC ATM Banking Machine in Cambridge Ontario. My statement now reads I only deposited $160.00. $100.00 of my money has been stolen. I have receipt of my deposit,

My first step: I have notified PC Financial and advised them of the discrepancy (theft). They have advised me they will investigate. It will take 5 business days for the resullts. 5 business days have now elapsed and I'm ready to move on to step two. $100.00 is still missing from my account.

Can anyone advise what course of action I can take to escalate this matter if I am not satsified with the results of the investigation ? (meaning they have not acknowledged their fault and my money is not put back into my account).

Also

Can anyone advise just what are the chances of me getting my money put back into my account without a fight?

I'm prepared to fight this and get my money back!!!! $100 is $100!!

Just to make it clear....There is no mistake in the amount I entered. I know I deposited $260.00. I entered $260.00 and I have a bank receipt reflecting that amount. It was days later when I checked my account I found out it was $100 dollars short.

If the bank balanced....
You will surely have a problem getting them to fork over $100.00 from an ATM deposit.....
ATM deposit has zero proof of amount that was actually put into an envelope...zero...

Never deposit cash into an ATM unless its thru a BANK BAG DEPOSIT>>>>LOCKED.....

Unfortunately the ATM machine only knows what amount you punched into the machine so the fact that the deposit slip says $260 isn't going to help. Look at it this way. If you deposited $260 but punched in $2600, your deposit slip would say $2600 and would be wrong. Putting cash into an ATM is a really bad idea because you have no proof that there was really that amount in the deposit envelope. I will tell you though, I found out with my own bank that when they open those deposit envelopes, they have clerks sitting in a room with video cameras and if there is a discrepancy between the amount in the envelope and the amount your put on the deposit slip, supposedly they can go back and review the tapes. Ask them if their transactions are on video tape. I don't know if all banks do that. I was told that mine did. I would call the bank tomorrow and ask them what the result of their investigation was. Good luck. Hopefully they've found the error and you'll get your money back.
