The fastest way humans can destroy soil is by causing fires. In some cases when man prevents fires he causes even worst damage to soils. When too much combustible material gathers when fires are prevented, the fire can be more intense and even kill deep rooted plants.

Another soil erosion method is not setting up wind breaks. During the dust storm era, there was a drought and lots of farms without trees. The dust storms of the thirties in the United states destroyed the soil by letting it blow away.

In some very rainy areas it is important to leave some plants in the soil to hold the soil down when the rains come. However flash floods in the desert are sometimes unstoppable and it is best not to plant in ravines in the desert, because when the rains comes nothing can stop flash floods in ravines (However plant stuff after a rain is a good idea....)

Global warming will cause areas along the ocean to be swept into the sea. Wave action erosion will increase as global warming increases. Dukes, dams and levees will be rendered useless to stop the increasing ocean sea level due to the melting ice caps that stored water.

I'm not sure of all the ways, but strip mining is one of them. Thats where they put high powered hoses squirting water at it to strip the soil of the nutrients and such for the search for gold or other precious metals and gems.
