Pressing Ctrl Alt Del is NOT a command to reformat your hard drive. If you don't know what you are doing, it is better to leave it to the administrator as you may damage your system.

However if you must know you must enter the BIOS of your computer which is at start-up. You must press f10 or f12 (when you turn you system on, it will tell you) then follow the basic instructions. You might need your o.s. disk. Good Luck

That is incorrect in Windows. Ctrl+alt+del pressed once allows you to close programs or shutdown the computer altogether if pressed twice when there is a prblem like it freezes. To format a drive, you may need the windows startup disk. Go to the control panel>add remove programs, and click on the startup disk tab. Follow directions to make startup disk. Shutdown the computer leaving the startup disk installed. When the computer starts, you should get a prompt. Enter FORMAT C: (or corresponding drive letter to the drive you desire to reformat because if you do the wrong one it's doo-doo on your head).
Note: If the disk being formatted is not the master drive, you may be able to reformat in "my computer" simply by right clicking on it and choosing the "format".

Control, Alt Deleate only opens running programs, and offers you a chance to end running programs. I don't knot what you are trying to do, but is not for re-formating your hard drive as far I know. On older computers, this same key function did re-start, or possibly re-formatted older pcs. But, today, there's much easier ways to reformat, like start, and there's a thing at the bottom asking about hitting F10, 11, or some F key to re-format your hard drive. Some pcs then need a cd-rom. But, some like my Gateway, have the re-boot, built into the hard drive allready.
