OK... About an hour ago.. she woke up screaming in pain.. My wife got up with her... and talked to her.. then called the doctor to see what to do. The doctor asked a few questions.. told them to go to the hospital... and when they got there my daugther said she didnt hurt anymore. Now, she has NEVER been one to exaggerate pain... She is always down playing everything.. so my wife called the doctor back.. he said that they could probably go home and not be seen if she is not in pain at all anymore... Now my question is.. do you think this could possibly be her starting her period? Is that possible at 8 years old? She will be 9 in 3 weeks.. That seems aweful young... and nothing else has been "changing". OR what else do you think could be causing that pain? She was so bad before they left, she could barely even walk... HELP! Thanks

starting of the menses does not hurt like that.
i would schedule a complete physical with her doctor and get everything checked out.
this is not normal, but i think you already know that.

best of luck to her and you, too.

It is possible for an eight year old girl to start her periods, but she wouldn't be in that much pain, and you would probably notice other changes happening, even if they were only minor.

I would suggest appendix, or even a bladder infection or like. I would definitely recommend that your daughter sees the doctor as soon as possible.

As you said, you know your daughter, and she wouldn't have acted like that unless something was really wrong. Better to see the Dr so they can run some tests and make sure nothing sinister is going on.

Better to safe than sorry.

Good Luck :-)

appendicitis maybe?

The main symptom of appendicitis is abdominal pain. The pain is at first diffuse and poorly localized, that is, not confined to one spot. (Poorly localized pain is typical whenever a problem is confined to the small intestine or colon, including the appendix.) The pain is so difficult to pinpoint that when asked to point to the area of the pain, most people indicate the location of the pain with a circular motion of their hand around the central part of their abdomen. A second, common, early symptom of appendicitis is loss of appetite which may progress to nausea and even vomiting. Nausea and vomiting also may occur later due to intestinal obstruction.

try and explain to her what a period is?she may get it

Girls might be impatient for their first period to come like Angela. Or they may have been menstruating for a while now and feel like Tiffany does. It's normal for girls to feel either way. Some girls start to menstruate as early as age 8, whereas others start as late as age 16. The average age is , but every girl's body has its own schedule.

Your daughter probably had gas pains. They can be extremely painful. It is possible that she is starting her period, but that's not usually a symptom. Girls usually start between 9 and 14. If she has the pains tomorrow I'd take her back to the doctor.

It could be i started my period around age 10...sounds like a cyst may have burst an ovarian cyst. Where was her pain? LIke what part of her stomach? Low or middle section? Any other symptoms? Get her some ibuprofen tonight and a heating pad and plenty of water..sched app with doctor for this week. Check her for a fever over next 24 hours. Good luck

I remember when i first started mine i would get "cramps" so bad i could not walk and it hurt just to lay down. Have your wife talk to her and ask her where the pain actually is. (i relize that your a conserned father but its better for a female to do this since a female is use to the "thing in question" Plus she will feel mortified talking to you about this. (trust me on this one)

Anyway i was 10 1/2 when i started mine. It was right between 5th and 6th grade. Also do me a fav. if she is starting soon. then DO NOT GO TO THE STORE with her the first 100 times and PLEASE dont let your wife drag her down the isle and yell at the top of her lungs.... "HEY WHICH ONE OF THESE THINGS DO YOU WANT [insert name]" Just speaking from experience.

Honestly, it could be menstrual cramps at that age..but I'll bet was gas....ask her if she passed gas or used the bathroom #2....I know that we can have unbelievable cramps from gas...hell i've had some that are worse than labor pains...Anyhow,,,keep an eye on her...she may start her period soon...i started at 10 and then got boobs soon after....it's better for her to know about her period young because girls are hitting puberty really young now....I wish I would have known about it when i started mine...i thought i was dying when i woke up in a pool of blood....but like many others, my mom thought I was too young to have to worry about it....in my opinion...girls hitting puberty younger is a wonderful thing..a gift to protect them those pedofiles...PS..i hope she is ok..

It is possible...VERY possible if you're wife started at an early age and/or women in either of your families have. Mine began at 9 or 10 and my daughter about the same. Give her a few days and monitor closely. It isn't the end of the world if she is, just part of the cycle of life...she'll still be your little girl no matter. Good luck and let us know how she is plse.

It could be a number of the things that have been suggested--gas, kidney stones. It could be her menstrual cycle too, and it seems like the younger you start, the more painful they are. But if it is hormones there should be some other clues that she's about to start--a growth spurt or slight change in shape?

Calf muscle cramps. If I exercise too much or ride the bike for a long time I usually get those dreaded cramps in the middle of the night. The muscle is pulled upwards and is very painful. If the room temperature is too cold, the muscles will strain automatically to warm itself up.

If this happens to someone, the pain usually is too much you can't think straight and panic which causes it to strain even harder and longer. What to do is, pull your knee to your chin and your toe pads towards you (upright). In the opposite direction of the calf strain.

Ok please listen to me when I say this.Take her BACK TO THE HOSPITAL ASAP IF SHE SHOWS THE FOLLOWING SYMPTOMS.This sounds exactly like what happened to my sister. If she shows any signs of constipation along with throwing up (even if its just once) more pain in that area, pain starts staying to one side,it hurts for her to lie down she will be showing all the symptoms of Ovarian Trorision also known as a twisted ovary. If she has these signs, which can come and go take her ASAP.My sister who was 9 at the time, came down with these symptoms. When she is highly stressed she will fake constipation or stomach aches,so thats exactly what my mom thought is was. After several days my mom was so fed up thinking she was just faking as always she took her to the hospital to prove a point, come to find out,she was very wrong.(this is actually my stepsister) my stepdad called me to let me know what was going on after they arrived, they were told she sounded as she has and appendix problem. They went in the next morning to do explortory surgery only to find out her ovary had twisted and died and had to be removed.I know how scary this sounds, but it is so unknowen, that when it is found its usually to late.If your daughter shows any sign of a swollen tummy all over or in one area, this is a def. sign of ovairn torsion. Please look it up online and see if she is displaying any of these symptoms.Im at work, sorry for the poor spelling and grammer.I have to run. Please e-mail me if you have any more questions patandjill13@hotmail.com
