Well, this is probably NOT the best option, but my first job was a cashier at McDonald's. Fast food gives some pocket money for young people, but in the long run, it sucks. You can get paid the same minimum wage at like an arcade or something. You COULD find a telemarketing firm around, they tend to pay higher than minimum wage, and they usually hire mostly people 16 and up.

Congratulations on this big step into adulthood. My first job was working at the local movie theater in the concession stand when I was 15. Then I moved into retail working at the local mall once I turned 16. I think something like that is good, because throughout life, you have to learn to interact with people, and the best way to do that is in the customer service field. You learn how to deal with different types of people. Something with retail, a department store, bookstore, or whatever. You can start either as a cashier, or a more behind the scenes position like a stock person if you feel more comfortable. Check out your local paper, or if your school guidance counselor has a job center, sometimes places hiring advertise to nearby high schools. Good luck!

honestly, if your shy, i would suggest a waitress job, and not to be a smart a.s.s. but, it would help u learn how to talk to different people. at first, it will be hard and embarressing. becareful, some people can smell fear, but those are lessons you will need to know in life. i was once shy, but then i got a job at a truck stop, they really helped me get over that, because if you dont, you get no tips at the end of the day. now i can talk to people with no problem. waitressing could also help u read people, see how there feeling and based on their mood you could strike up a conversation, make a sad person happy, and calm a mad person down. if your not comfortable with that, then maybe a call center will be good. sometimes its easy to talk to people when they are not face to face. just becareful of mean people, but other than that it teaches u how to be curtious over the phone, and you dont really work hard. try any of these and let me know how it works for u....

My first job was fast food and I don't recommend it. Think about what you like and apply for jobs there. If you like clothes go to all the clothing stores in your area and fill out applications. If you like books, go to the book stores. This way you will be around what you enjoy, will have something to talk about, so you may not feel so shy and the best part is you will get a discount. (Don't forget to put away some money for your first car.)
Good luck and have fun with it!
