My daughter has rented hotel/motel rooms alone since she was 17. Usually on a family members credit card, with their written permission, sometimes the manager would contact the family member. It would be easiest and best if the credit card holder made the reservation in advance on their credit card.

I am not aware of any state laws, or county or city ordinances regarding a minimum age to rent or stay in a hotel alone. It usually is a matter of the company policy of the management of the hotel.

Many hotels are concerned with liability issues, as well as for the safety of unescorted minors. To say nothing of the reputations of un-chaparoned teens "partying" with other teens, or even with adults.

If a responsible teen had identification, and credit card, as well as some indication of what they were doing there, and that they had the permission of parents, some hotels might allow a teen to rent a hotel room; but they are not under any obligation to do so, as a minor under 18 is not capable of making a legal contract in most states, or may only make a voidable agreement regarding liability.

In California I know for a fact that you have to be 18 and have valid id to reserve a room and most hotels won't allow anybody under 18 to stay in a room alone. I live in California and have been to pretty much every city here and know the hotels.
