i have an internal LITE-ON COMBO Sohc-4832k and an external DVDRW USB1008UI both of which read only certain cd's i really need 2 install my software fast can someone please help me with detailed steps

i have aso updated the firmwares for both drives also right when i put the cd in it shows a cd pic besides the cursor but when i open the drive it shows nothing

You should be able to read software cd's with either mechanism, music/video disks are a different matter. What are you planning to install? What's working/not working on your pc (for that matter is it a pc or what?) My guess is that you need to reinstall some drivers on your computer. If you can get into the device manager, see if there any flags.

As per your question, you say that you have a DVD-RW and a Combo. It means that you should be able to use any kind of CD. I can only thing of two reasons why a CD would not work with your drives though.
1. The CD actually doesn't work. It might be ruined, scratched up or etc.
2. The CD was not meant to work with your Operating System. If you have Windows, the CD might have been meant for Linux, Unix, Mac or anything else. Therefore, the format is not readable to Windows.
I think that you should check the CD on another computer with the same Operating System as yours and see if it works.

Proabably cd might be scratched. try runing the cd in a different computer if the cd runs there then there is problem with your drive
Try upgrading the firmware from the manufacterers website or google it up to find if latest firmware for your drive are available. If doesnt work then probably the OS in your is not supporting.
Upgrade your firmware regularly to improve your drive's performance
