we can use C to represent the number of choco-giggles and F to represent the number of fruity scooters

We know that C are .25 each and F are .30 each. If he paid $73 for all then .25C + .30F=73
We also know that C+F=264 (i'm assuming you didn't mean to put the $ there)
So if C+F=264 then C=264-F

So then you can substitute that into your money equation:
Instead of .25C + .30F=73 use what you got C=264-F instead of C: .25(264-F) + .30F = 73

you can solve for F from that, then subtract your F value from 264 to get C

If you think about this problem in terms of x's and y's you end up with an equation looking like this

0.25x + 0.3y = 73 (1)

and we are given that all the lollies added up = 264
x + y = 264 (2)

So from (2) we can change the equation to be x in terms of y (you can do y in terms of x it doesn't matter)

so (2) becomes x =

so we sub that into (1) and get

0.25*(264 - y) + 0.3y = 73
66 -.25y+0.3y=73
0.05y = 7
y = 7 / 0.05
y = 140
so sub that into (2) and you get x = 124

x = Choco-Giggles = 124
y = Fruity Scooter = 140
