There are many reasons that a person would be attracted to someone who is the opposite of them. That person may admire certain traits because a family member has similar traits. Another reason may be that someone in the person's past who they loved also had those traits, and the person has become familiar and comfortable with that type of person. A third reason could be that the person is an adventurous type, and finds that being with someone totally different is very exciting. Or, a high strung person may need someone calm to balance them out and give them security, The calm person may love the energetic person because the energy is transferred to them.

I believe that everyone is unique when it comes to this. Some people do indeed like a mate that is the complete opposite of what they are; this allows a degree of excitement into their lives that they would not normally experience. However, some people are content living the life they are accustomed to. And then there are people who like a person who is similar to them but just different enough to make it interesting. Personally, I would go absolutely mad if I had to be with someone who was practically my clone. However, I do consider myself to be somewhat intelligent; therefore I want a mate who I can have an intellectual conversation with. It all really depends on each person's preferences.

I think the term "opposites attract" is said because people are fascinated, or at least interested in people very different from themselves. In the long run though, people tend to pick someone with the same qualities they have for a long-term relationship.

Yes, it's true that opposites attract!!! HEED my warning though, *unless* you like to be frustrated *most* of the time, DON'T marry them!!

My husband and I have been married for 6 1/2 years, and it's been an uphill struggle ALL the way! ---------------We've had some good times, though. It's getting better, but I probably should have married someone with closer interests as mine.

It is true for some people. Everybody is attracted to something differant. Sometimes they try to find somebody similar to them. Other people try to find people the complete opposite of them. Some just look for people that are smart, funny, cool, nice ect. Basically what I am trying to say is everybody is differant and that does not go for everybody.

I've worked with several girls that are opposite me, personality-wise. Its just funny how it works out. We get along great. I could never understand the actual meaning of "Opposites attract", myself. But, I like it.

No. That old saying "opposites attract" is bull ****. Studies have found (shockingly) that people are attracted to other who have the same interests. If you hate something, then you are not going to be interested in someone who loves it. Its just common sense really.

No, it's actually the opposite of the "opposite" you're talking about. People tend to find mates that resemble them.
