When does the baby flip to be head down? I'm having a hard time finding this answer and when I do I've found a range from 22-30 weeks??? Also, how fast does it happen? I'm 24 weeks and I think he is laying sideways right now. Can't get to see doc for another week and a half.

I'm not worried, I'm curious.

I think it is actually around your 34th-36th week....and it takes about 6-8 days. And if he is sideways that is natural...he is in the process of the flipping. Some babies actually flip sideways more than once i think, so it all depends. But just hold tight and wait til you get to your Doc. he'll have a better answer than anyone here. Unless they are doctors as well that is.

Baby does a number of acrobatics in the uterus. Just because he is laying on one side right now doesn't mean that he will be in the same position when you wake up tomorrow. The baby begins to get ready for the trip down the birth canal closer to the time of birth although some are in the position much longer and some never do get into the proper position.

Why are your worried about this now? You have weeks to deliver. When the baby flips you won't even know it. Think about it like this, when they stop having enough room to roll around in, they are usually head down. When you get to about 30 weeks, the dr. will check to see if the head is in the correct position.

Each baby is different. The 22-30 weeks range sounds about right. I've heard of babies in breech position turning right before their moms went into labor. My baby turned at about 28 weeks.

I am 31 weeks, I went for a check up at my midwifes clinic at 29 weeks and the baby was laying with his head pointing toward my hip (kind of sideways?) and she wasn't worried. If you are worried, call your OB, midwive or GP they will be happy to put your mind at ease!

hi. u should be worried that was my main concern, because i didn't want docs to turn my stomach or having a c section. my baby turned at 34 weeks and that was a big load of my chest didn't have to worry no more although they say babies some times go back to head up position.
well good luck to u.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and I read on babycenter.com that if you are a first time mom then this is the week that the babies head becomes engaged and they stop floating around. You should go to that website, they have a lot of useful information and it gives you week by week updates sent right to your e-mail. I love it.
