I have worked with cloths I have bought but only succeeded once. Its real hard. I hoping to do roses for teachers day

Wow, I just found this site for a friend of mine who was wanting to make fabric roses! They require hand sewing Hope it helps you also. ~-~

The only roses I know are tissue paper roses. You get the pink and red tissue paper, cut it into a square, fold it like an accordian, wrap a pipe cleaner around the base, and then fold them into the rose shape. They're easy, cheap, and look great.
