Usually, you take your temp at the same waking time each morning after at least 3 hours of sleep. YOu need to take it on the same side of your mouth everyday and in the same way.

You can experiment a little too. Maybe take your BBT in the morning and at night. I've done this and noticed that my nighttime temp is more erratic than my morning temp, but it often predicts the morning temp pretty well (rising when my morning temp will jump or falling when the morning temp will fall).

From what I understand, a normal morining BBT is around 97.5, give or take. After ovulation, the temps usually jump by 4/10s of a degree. It varies from woman to woman though. Low temps can sometimes be an indication of hypothyroid or low progesterone. Higher than usual temps might be hyperthyroid.

The book The Art of Natural Family Planning by Kippley goes into great detail on temperatures and is very useful for "unusual" temperature patterns.

Check first thing in the am before you get out of bed. Each person's temp varies but 99.5 at waking is probably a sign that you ovulated. If you take it in the evening it doesn't work. Has to be the temperature upon waking

Basal body temperature means your temperature first thing in when you wake up, (for most people, in the morning) after at least three hours of sleep, before you do anything like sit up or get out of bed, or anything like that. Checking your temperature at night isn't going to tell you much at all.

you need to check the temperaure as soon as you wake up in the morning before you do anything,No matter at what time you wake up but check it immediately,99.5 means that you've already ovulated.
