Hey, I am currently planning to go study abroad to tokyo but I hear that sometimes the Japanese people there are not very polite to foreigners especially Chinese. Is this true?

It all comes down to culture. Japanese people are friendly, but you're not going to experience people hugging you and welcoming you to their society. They're polite, quiet, and generally fairly staid in character.

Tokyo is as international a city as you'll get in Japan. I have quite a few friends here that are either Chinese in nationality or heritage, and they all enjoy it here.

Just be accepting of the fact that you're in a different culture, and be open-minded about the differences you'll encounter - and you'll be fine.

From my experience, Tokyo is very foreigner friendly. The average Joe/Jane are willing to help you on the street if you stop them and ask for directions or help. There were those people that sort of did the, "I don't want to get involved" thing by bowing down and then speeding up, but that is probably because they didn't speak English. What people in Tokyo don't like that I saw happen more than once is a loud and rude foreigner trying to press their way on the Japanese. A good piece of advice is the old saying "When in Rome, do as the Romans do". I like that saying to the point that you don't have to sacrifice your own morals. Tokyo is a great place for foreigners. Personally, though, it is too crowded for me. I live way down in the south, and I love it here. Nice pace of life and a can relax.

Good luck with your studies.

Why don't you think about coming to the south. My school has exchange student agreements with Bunso university and Seigi university, and one more, I can't remember the name. Several Chinese and Taiwanese student attend my university every year. Message me for more information.

I think it all depends on the person's experience. Japan's foreign population is less than 2% of the entire population. Because of that, life can be difficult. Japanese will be friendly to foreigners (most of them anyway) but they probably won't go out of their way for you. If you want to study here, then I recommend you study at least basic Japanese and learn some about the culture. Good luck!
