Writing a book is a complicated process that involves hundreds of factors, from complex story arcs to archetype characters all the way down to proper grammar and spelling.
Read books on writing nonfiction. There's no way to answer this in a paragraph on Yahoo Answers.

James Frey has admitted his memoirs were at least part fiction, but he originally sold them as a totally real story.

May I suggest you not emulate him?

EDIT: I was unclear. Frey submitted "A Million Little Pieces" to dozens of publishers as a novel and was rejected. He then decided to sell it as a memoir...which means NONFICTION. It DOES matter.

It has baffled me as to why some people want to get their panties in a wad over James Frey's selling of his memoirs as truth when they were partly fiction. If I remember correctly the book was first submitted as fiction, and one of the editor's suggested he have it published as a memoir. And if people want to get upset with anyone, get upset with the publisher who apparently did absolutely no fact checking of the book before it was printed. I thought all publishers did that as a matter of course before printing a new book which claimed authenticity. The book was a great read, whether fiction or nonfiction. Get over it people!! And if you liked it, read My Friend Leonard, the sequel. Frey is a great talent. Stop riding him and let him create some more great reads.

Pardon my curiosity, but why do you want to emulate someone who lied about portions of his life--making Oprah look like a complete fool on her own TV talk show?

It's not what I would call a great career move--if you're dead serious about becoming a good writer.

I would suggest that you stay true when writing your own memoirs.
