I could never find a foundation that is right for me. I've tried Cafe, Coffee, and Honey (Loreal). None of them work for me. How can I choose one that's right for me?

You don't need a foundation... It looks to me that you are a very beautiful girl and don't need stuff that clogs the pores... What you need is a tinted toner and not really all that stuff that covers your face... I know what I'm talking about....

I am a makeup artist and I hope my answer will help you. On my clients of African American Descent I like to use Covergirl Queen Collection. Its made just for women of color, I even use it myself.

So here are some tips:

Since skin tones vary greatly among women of African descent, finding the right face makeup can be tricky. The wrong makeup can lead to an ashen or flat complexion, but with a little insight and a lot of experimentation, you can minimize the guesswork and put your best face forward.

Steps:

1. Look beyond your skin's color and examine its undertones. Rich ebony complexions usually have cool, almost blue undertones, while brown and caramel complexions have warm golden undertones.

2. Choose from shades that appear to be in your color range and may complement your complexion's undertones. Remember that foundation will look different on your skin than it does in a bottle or on a thumbnail palette.

3. Consider lines that specialize in black beauty products for the widest color selection. Always try foundation on your jawline or the inside of your wrist to get the best idea of a color match.

4. Set your makeup with a loose translucent powder. If you're blessed with a flawless even complexion, skip the foundation and opt for a tinted moisturizer or tinted powder over bare skin.

5. Contour your cheekbones with a sweep of blush. Plums, currants and mauves will flatter a medium to dark complexion. Caramel, honey and apricot will complement a medium to light complexion.

Tips:

Bronzer is an alternative to blush for those with a warmer complexion. Dust a light coating over the face, contouring at temples and cheekbones.

When faced with uneven skin pigment, consult a beauty expert for suggestions on a foundation that will even out your skin tone. You may be a candidate for two colors, that when spread over the right areas, will render the uniform look you desire.

Think about your skin type when selecting a face makeup. Oilier skins do better with water-based liquid foundations and cream blush, while drier skins benefit from cream formulas.

Warnings:

Testers in drug stores may not be sterile. Buy with a store guarantee: if the color is not right, then the item is returnable.

I love to use MAC even though its expensive, but you can use anything Almay, Loreal True Match, Covergirl, Maybelline, and so on.

I hope that helps.

Go to department store and have someone from the counter help you find the perfect shade for you. I would suggest Clinque because their products are great for younger people. If you just want to even out your skin tone you can grab a tinted moisturizer and concealer in case you have anything you need to cover up in particular. Hope this helps!

Lorea'l has the Bare Naturale powder that covers like a foundation. Its a light mineral makeup.

Also they have Trumatch foundation for cool, nuetral, or warm shades.

Covergirl has compact powders called Trublend that matches 97% of skin tones.
Hope this helps.

Go to those make up expositions and there are make up artist that give out free advice and make overs. Like your local shopping mall they have make up stands and they will show you MAC brand is the the best it gives you an all cover and blends into your skin. Another great i idea that i received from a make-up artist is that you buy a foundation lighter than your skin and one that is darker then your skin and blend it to your liking ...Good luck

I have the same problem being very dark skinned. The one I was ever able to find that perfectly match me was from Lancome. It's expensive, but I think it was very worth it. Go to a local counter and have someone match you. Don't buy anything unless you are completely happy with the shade. Many of them tend to be commission happy.

I heard there's a new line of foundations made from the model Iman, for "colored" people. But if its hard to find that, i sugest you try as many shades as you can.

try visiting the cosmetics department, i know they can be expensive but i tried fashion fair and it works pretty well for me. they match to your skin tone and if you have oily skin or dry skin. it can be found at bostons or any department store. try something for ethnic skin. also Queen Latifah has a covergirl brand called "Queen" with shades for our skin tone. you can check that out at walgreens.
