Automotive sales store will have grease you seek. Usual application is a black color grease but there is a red grease for high speed high temperature applications.

Grease comes in consistency ratings like oil. Doesn't have to come in black long as its the right consistency. Check with the maker of the machine your working with too, to be sure to get the right type of grease.. many auto stores will sell you all kinds of grease, but for machines you might have to go to a machine shop.

any auto parts store sells it. oil /fuel distributors sell it.
it can turn black when it is contaminated with dirt or other substances. like if you take apart a machine that has been run for a while, the grease on/in it will look black.
when the grease is new and clean it can be dark green, blue, several other colors depending upon the manufacturer.

i dont know of any new grease that is black.
there are many different kinds of grease. the most common is multi-purpose grease. there is high temperature grease, wheel bearing grease, many other kinds depending upon what it is used for.

You are probably talking about Packing Grease with graphite in it. any Auto Supply stores will know what you are asking for, just say ball baring packing grease.

go to your local wal-mart superstore ... go to the automotive section and look in the grease and motor oil section .. on the tube of grease it will tell you that is used for heavy equipment... if desperate don't be afraid to ask the mechanic or sales person... just tell them you want to make sure it the right grease for your machinery... plus wal-mart can always be cheaper ... usually... good luck

the black grease just might be called (graphite). this lubricant is oftentimes used for industrial equipment. probably can be purchased wherever heavy lifting or moving equipment(fork lifts) is sold.
