i think our bodies are meant to do different things, and that you shouldnt mess with it unless its hurting you in some way. ive had irregular periods all my life. ill get one that lasts 5 days, then wont get another for 6 months. then ill get three in a row right on time like a normal girl, then wont get one for 3 months. i have had two healthy children, and my irregular periods havent affected me in any way other than its harder to tell if im pregnant. :) im also not overweight, i dont think that would cause irregular periods. more often its the very very thin girls who dont get their periods. also, she just started, its very common for the first year of a girls menses to be a little off. i wouldnt worry for a while longer at least.

Many women experience irregular periods when they first begin. Even now at the age of 24 mine are still irregular, and I'm healthy otherwise. I don't think many doctors would be willing to initiate hormone therapy at such an early age. She's still going through many changes with her body, and it's going to take time before everything gets adjusted to those changes.
If it's concerning her as much as it is you, then maybe a doctor visit would make her feel better, but I think she's just a normal teen going through puberty.
EDIT: Upon re-reading your post, I noticed that it's been over a year since her last period. Perhaps the doctor would be a good idea, just to make sure nothing is wrong. Also, she should talk to her mother and grandmother, as many girls take after them in the reproductive department.

If shes only 14 now, then her periods wont be regular. help the girl try and lose some weight and wait for her hormones to get themselves all in order. At that age it wont be regular, i'm 18 and I'm still not regular. If you're the concerned go and see a doctor.
Good luck

Well a year or two after just starting a period, it's not gonna be regular. Maybe it has to do with her weight but I don't know. Also girls who exercise a lot could skip periods so if she starts to exercise a lot i'd expect that.
Instead of going to a gyn i'd go to her pediatrician or something.

When i first had my period i didnt start again until 2 months later but since this keeps happening and its a problem you should probably go to a ob-gyn and get her put on birth control which will help regulate her cycle

Nothing to worry at this moment, lots of girl have irregular period at starting......and if she is overweight regular gym/following proper diet is necessary, otherwise problems may occur later.
