you may have better luck in retaining the comforters fluff and shape if you have it professionally cleaned.

The following takes a bit, but it's worth it....just be really sure the entire comforter CAN be washed...including the inside batting! Take a needle and thread and about every 4 inches just take a tuck all the way through the comforter and knot it off. Do this over the entire thing...wash it in cold water fragile and spin it a couple of times to get most of the water out and do not put it in the dryer...hang it either on a clothes line, or on a shower rod over several rounded plastic hangars. It will work for you!

Purchase some Larger Safety pins. Pin here and there all over the Quilt. (Where clumping occurs.
Leave them in on the dry cycle as well.
Remove the pins.
This will help keep the inside contents from shifting.
Also to fluff it up a little in the dryer, add 2-3 tennis balls.
they fluff clothes, blankets etc as they dry.

Read the instructions. Are you supposed to machine wash it? How are you to dry it? In the dryer on a line? If in the dryer, put in tennis or dryer balls or clean sneakers. Take it out before it's dry and change its position in the machine and start again.

Bring it to a Laundromat, They have the large machines that the comforter can move around and get cleaned better than the washer in houses. They also have the large dryers. and the know how.

Use a front loading washing machine, they don`t tangle your clothes and sheets. The agitator in top loading washers damage comforters, ( especially larger ones)..

Try putting a pair of tennis shoes in with the comforter. They beat against the fill material as it tumbles.

Use a bigger washer. Like one from the laundry mat. Or pay to have it dry cleaned.

If you washed it once and clumped it, you alrady screwed up. Buy a new one and don't do that again!
