we wouldn't - actually, laziness is extremely beneficial in doses - without it we never would have invented any of the things that make life easier and allow us to be lazier, like washing machines, cars, sewing machines, etc. It's like our preference for high-fat foods - in the small amounts we used to get them, it was ideal, same with laziness, we try to conserve energy for the same reason, that evolutionarily we didn't have any to spare...

There is another term used by some philosophers, that is, "idleness" and it seems to me it is quite acceptable, instead of "laziness" which infers negative reaction or poor impression. If I remember correctly, there's a short book on this title by Bertrand Russell, the famous British philosopher and mathematician. Recently, there's a small paperback published by Penguin Books in the similar theme. I'm sorry I don't have its title at the moment, I may tell you later.
I think such idleness or laziness is a normal action or reaction for human beings to relax after long, tedious work and one's body and his mind need some peaceful rest, in other words, to recharge his energy. So it's a matter of time, that is, if one lingers on such the rest too long, some family members or friends might assume (unfairly) thus.

Because we're human & have many faults. Laziness just happens to be one of them. The 7 Deadly Sins call it sloth. Laziness is a vice when we don't do things that we should, e.g. visiting people (like grandmothers who are often lonely) or not following thru on a promise to someone else.

My neighbor is a pretty wise old timer.
Once he told me " if you want to find out the easiest way to do something, have a lazy person do it."
So maybe there is some value there

Laziness exists because it's meant to exist. Without lazy people, we wouldn't have anyone to make fun of.........
