I agree...the bumbo seat is awesome. Its about $40.00 dollars but my son has been using it since he was 8 weeks old and now that he is 12 weeks...i can sit him in it and not worry about him falling over. He loves sitting up like a big boy! I would also recommend a good side to side cradle swing like the papasan from fisher price. That thing has been a life saver. It instantly puts my son to sleep. I've heard they are also good for gassy babies but it is definitely worth the money. If you are breastfeeding...i highly recommend the medela pump in style breast pump. Its a great double electric breast pump. Its very quick to assemble and easy to operate and isn't too loud like some of the others. Hope this helps and good luck with your little one!!!

I enjoyed the Bumbo a lot as well. We got it a little late in the game; however, it is great if you're going to a wedding, a picnic, or over to a friends house for dinner as baby can sit in it and become the centerpiece for your table (not crying in his/her carrier on the floor or filling the arms/laps of one parent so you can't eat).

But the Best Necessity would definitely be A LARGE swaddling blanket to use for nighttime (that is if you can't say "hired help"). Skip the receiving blankets. They are pretty worthless once your baby is larger than 5 lbs/2.5 kg even though they are cute. You need a blanket large enough to tightly swaddle your little bug so he/she will stay nice and snug through a nap and nighttime sleep. It helps you get your Zzzzzs, which you can never get enough of with a newborn. You'll probably want a couple of them as they can get wet from various things quite quickly.

I think the smartest thing we ever bought was a floppy seat. It is the cloth seat cover that you use on a grocery cart or a high chair at a restaurant, so many places where my little one can pick up germs. I at least know if she is chewing on a strap that it is her strap that she is chewing. I also love her baby Einstein jumper, its got lots of toys on it, she is 10 months old and got it when she was 8 months for Christmas and she loves to play in that! its nice to have her some place safe while I vacuum or cook dinner.

A blow-up bathtub that going in a big bathtub. The bottom inflated as well. It gave him a smaller area to play in, was soft on the bottom and cushioned those inevitable falls in the tub keeping him from hitting his head on the tub. He loved playing in his tub. We used it to bath him on the counter before he could sit up and then he used it in the tub when he could sit up until he was just too big to fit in it and move around. It was well worth the $12! (And, we are about to start using it for our second baby - once I get it unpack from the move. LOL)

The sling for carrying my baby was utterly the best item I was ever introduced to for babies. This device lets you hold your baby while keeping your hands free (at least one!) It frees you from strollers which can't go into so many cool places. It meets your baby's need for being held. It provides a discreet way to nurse in public. It's the best.

Play Mat with overhead hanging toys. I bought the boppy pillow one for $50 and couldn't use it, so if someone wants to buy it from me let me know!! Ha Ha. I promptly bought the Bright Starts one from wallmart. $30

My pack and play. It was over $100, but the best money spent. I use it for all sorts of things.

The Arm's Reach cosleeper. It allowed me to keep my baby right next to me and protected him from rolling off the bed while we coslept.
