Ok my dad was a jr, I have no brothers so his name never carried on. I would like my baby to have his full name, so would my child be the 1st or the 3rd?

Okay...
Your grandfather is the 1st.
Your dad is the 2nd.
So, your son would be the 3rd.

Easy :)

I bet your dad would be proud to know that you want to name his grandson after him.

I dont believe that your son would be a jr, 2nd or a 3rd. He would just have the same name. But he's your son. How do you want him to be named? If you want him to be the 3rd, then name him that. This is all about you, not your dad or anyone else. Name your child anything you want girl.

Nothing. If you're not a male (which you're not) and you didn't get your dad's full name to pass it onto your son then it doesn't work. You would be starting a new line for your son. He may be named after your dad but technically he wouldn't be a junior or III. He would be (for example) Alexander James. If he had a boy and named him after himself he would be Alexander James Jr or Alexander James II. If he (the II) had a son and named him after him..he would be Alexander James III.

You would still be naming him after him but it just wouldn't be III at the end of the name. I hope I've helped.

He would be the 2nd since your dad didn't take the 2nd name title. Your dad took the junior name title instead. Your grandfather is the first, your dad is JR, and your son is the II.

The third, unless you have a different last name than your dad then it would just be his first name and middle name with your last name no Jr or anything.

I think none of the above. The only way to carry that on is if the biological father is also named that so your baby's dad would have to be your father in order to carry on the name in that case he would be the third. Please say it's not so.

I don't think he can be either. I believe a junior has to come directly from the dad. You can certainly name him the same name, but he's technically not a junior.
