Although Manson did not kill anyone, the murders by his "family" seemed to bring and end to the "Summers of Love " on the west coast and it rippled from there. The other event was the murder by the Hells Angles at the free Stones concert. Both events and the publicity they received stopped the influx of people to the Mecca of hippydom, San Francisco

Charlie was a charismatic space cadet who conned some air heads into killing people for him. The edge we have on Manson is that intellect is not a measure of sanity. Charlie might be smarter than us normal people, but he's still insane. Sanity trumps charisma every time.
