Contact your local state attorney general office, or your states labor department. They can answer some of your questions. but your job should have some sort of job protection or Family Medical Leave, or short term disability. You need to learn and read about your companies leave of absence program. And do a search on the internet for the federal program that all companies have to abide by, which is the Family Medical Leave act. Lawyer might be good, but think about the cost. Sams Club, should have some sort of job protection if you get hurt on the job.. if they do fire you because of that then get a lawyer for damages and lost wages, and sign a lawyers contract called a contingency contract. they get paid, if you get paid from a settlement.

Yes, you should at least get advice from an attorney. Places like that will normally try to talk you out of a big settlement and try to screw you over. Now, there is always the exception to the rule, but I'm just generalizing since I don't know anything about the company. What they did to your friend was also wrong unless she quit on her own terms and she needs to hire an attorney as well. They cannot discriminate against her because she is pregnant.... it's part of that whole equal opportunity thing. The most that they could have made her do was go on a maternity leave. It sounds like it isn't really a good company to work for but I don't know since I don't work there. My best advice is to find an attorney that will do a free consultation and see if you have a case, then if your company wont do anything about it take them to court.

Most all these answers are correct. You're entitled to worker's compensation.
Regarding your friend, without knowing the complete circumstances I can't be sure, but if she was fired just because she was pregnant, she can sue under the ADA, as pregnancy is considered a disability.

If you hurt your back on the job you need to notify your employer immediately and file a workman's compensation claim. Your employer is required by law to provide you with the necessary paperwork. If they try to fire you, decrease your pay, or screw with your job in any way you can file a complaint about them with the labor board or just get yourself an attorney. A friend of mine was fired by her employer for filing for workman's compensation....she sued, bought herself and her kids new vehicles, and went on vacation.... Hopefully they will just do what they are required to do by law. Good luck!

If you hurt yourself at work you just need to go to the doctor and report the injury as a work injury. They will have the paperwork there. It is illegal for your company to retaliate and fire you.
However, it is legal for your company to require you to submit to a drug test to determine if you were under the influence while at work.
L&I pays for all workplace related injuries. That is why you and your employer are charged a percentage of your wage on every paycheck.

Don't they have a form you can fill out that says you were injured in the job?
You are covered by their workman's compensation plan.

If they are treating you fairly and taking care of your medical expenses, no need to get greedy and getting a lawyer involved. The lawyer will act in his or her own best interest and take most of the money you have coming.

Have you reported your accident? When something like that happens, you need to document the accident. You need to be very careful about reporting accidents.
